This is an initial stage of treatment for periodontal disease. This non-surgical procedure allows for the removal of calculus and plaque that attaches to the tooth surfaces. The process especially targets the area below the gum line, along the root. The goal is to remove unwanted deposits, microorganisms and toxins. This procedure may be performed under local anaesthetic.
When deep pockets between teeth and gums are present, regular home care and maintenance may not be sufficient to remove the plaque and tartar effectively. Consequently, surgery may be needed to restore periodontal health.
