Biopsy

A biopsy is a test whereby tissue, with a questionable appearance, is removed and sent to a pathologist to assess for anything unusual and provide a definitive diagnosis.  The diagnosis will help determine final treatment options.

Reasons for Procedure

• Infection
• Swelling
• Growth
• Area of unusual contour and colour

It is performed to find out more about a potential problem. 

It is essential if there is any suspicion of cancer. It is a surgical procedure performed under local anaesthetic by a skilled general dentist or dental specialist.
